Great versitile small boat

We had two of these. Sold them to get bigger boats, which we love and use on the Chesapeake Bay and other large waters, but now are planning on buying two more frenzies for our vacation house in Va ( [....] )so we won't have to lug boats back and forth. The paddling there is rivers (the Maury and James Rivers are right near by) and ponds and the Frenzy is perfect for that. Enough room to bring a small cooler and a dry bag with a towel and a few other items but small enough to handle really well in tight spaces and white water (we've done 1's and 2's with great fun).

We really like that they are so great for swimming, just hop off and swim, climb back on when done. My wife needs to be in water she can stand in, like knee deep to get back on, I have no problem getting back on in any conditions, just depends on your athletic ability and confidence. Most people in good shape can remount in water over their head as the boats are quite stable.

That's another good point about these boats, especially for beginners, they are absolutely as stable a boat as you can find. I've paddled at least 40 different boats and never been on anything more stable other than the larger ocean kayaks such as the scrambler and malibu which have similar hull designs.

The Frenzy turns much easier than either of those but is similarly stable.

Great boat, especially if versatility is important to you. It's not the perfect open water boat but safe and capable while being truly excellent for surf, rivers, ponds etc. I highly recommend the Frenzy

Excellent Kayak, Great Value

I have several kayaks, from an 18 foot narrow expedition to tandems, but none were just for "fun."

I was looking for a light/easy to handle kayak to play in the surf while I was with my kids at the beach and the 9 foot frenzy seemed like a good choice. I have had this kayak for five months and it has fit the need perfectly. I have paddled other sit on tops from Necky and Perception, but for the price the Ocean Kayak was an easy choice.

General Impressions: It is wide and stable and makes getting out through the surf easy for even novice paddlers. The tri hull design has a rounded keel that runs the length of the kayak which helps this track well even under hard paddling. The formed in seat is quite comfortable enough for sessions up to two hours and the foot wells provide plenty of area for your feet when rough conditions require a lean and hard paddle or bracing. The kayak loads easily due to its low weight and I use foam blocks on the roof of my SUV to strap it down because the width and shape of the hull don't seem to work well with the hully rollers I use on the other kayaks. (The foam blocks are available from Amazon. I use the kit from Seattle Sports, comes with straps and carrying bag - a must if you don't have a rack! For this kayak you would want to purchase the wide blocks - 18 inches.)

Paddling: I was expecting a tub but was surprised by the paddling characteristics of this kayak. I put in about two miles from an inlet and found the paddle over to be pleasant and not overtaxing. The hull speed is fine for that type of work and don't worry about the guy passing you in the composite kayak...you'll be having way more fun than him - guaranteed.

Surfing: The main reason for the purchase. Wow! The surfing characteristics are excellent. The little tri hull tracks great, but a hard lean and brace and this becomes a very responsive little kayak. From the rough chop of inlets to long swells, I have had enjoyed leaning back and surfing this boat immensely.

NOTES: My kids, 9 and 11 were a little afraid of my other kayaks because they felt tippy but the stability of this one has them paddling by themselves in protected inlets and bays. I have also used it for collecting oysters and fishing. As a sit on top, storage is limited, but the standard bungee/recess areas are quite useful. This is a well thought out package and a great value for the money. Highly recommended!

love love love this yak

This is my first kayak, and what a great beginner yak. We use it for camping and just load it into our RV. Although I do think it is larger than I thought it would be making it difficult to handle myself. However for two transporting is great. I plan on using it to try some fishing on the lake this fall. All and all great for the lake and it is hard to tip. We are very happy with this purchase and I would recommand. I did do research on a kayak before I purchased. some of the other retailers have cheaper pricing, but when you add in the shipping ( free with Amazom ) Amazon was the cheapest by far!
