5Awesome!
By The Misfits
I took this kayak (my first SOT and first tandem) out today for the first time with my 70 year old mother. She sat in front and I did all the paddling easily. I need to get a back band support but the seat is plenty comfortable. (I'm 40) It tracks, it's fast enough and very stable. I thought the weight (about 320#) would make it slow but I had no problem. My 5 year old daughter and 7 year old son were in their own little kayaks for the first time. Daughter had problems so I was towing her most of the time. Even with her kayak jerking mine (because she kept trying to paddle) I was able to stay on course. We were on a glassy lake with a breeze. I was able to quickly paddle over to one kid or the other if they were struggling. My mother loved it and felt safe. I loved that I could turn /spin quickly and race across to one child or the other. I carried the kayak to the water and back myself and loaded / unloaded it from my Blazer myslef but I am very very strong. The 'handles' (like indentions for your fingers) make it easy to lift but I also used a strap around it with the strap over my shoulder. I'd like to get a little cart for moving it around, I don't want to have to keep carrying it by myself. 2 regular people could carry it easily. Since I am 40# heavier the self bailing holes in the seats kept me tush wet the whole time. Not a complaint, just saying. My mother however was dry. All in all, worth every penny. Packaged well, delivered quick, just like the picture. I'll update this if after I convince my dog to go with me and try my daughter in the little middle seat.
Update 7/3/2012 Still loving it. I made a cart for it, I don't want to have to lug it myself anymore, but easy to carry with 2 people. Dog loves it! Very stable. 75# Boxer can lean over side to drink, stand up and turn around with no problem - kayak doesn't even think about tipping. My only complaint is the rear carry handle came off after just a few uses. Need to get a new screw to put it back on. Still very happy with my purchase.

5Does the job. Having fun. A few cautions to consider.
By Mark
I've threatened this purchase since 1994, but never made the plunge. Having done so, I'm very pleased. I've taken out our six-year-old and our nine-year-old with success. It works as well if not better than the rental kayaks I've used. I'm very happy with the purchase. Also, cheaper than Dunhams with Prime (free) delivery? Very nice!

It travels well atop our minivan--btw we real cool. So far we've taken it to lakes and state parks. No rivers. We are taking it to the beach (8 hour drive) next month for bayside use.

'Heads Up' One: As to be expected with a two-person kayak, it is heavy and awkward. Although I do place and remove the kayak from our minivan's roof on my own, it's a two person job. My wife could not do it alone . . . and she's all tough and stuff.

'Heads Up' Two: Did I mention that the kayak is heavy and awkward? Outside of using a drive-to-the-water boat launch, moving the kayak between our vehicle and water is a two person job. I'm looking into a cart. LL Bean has one for around $60.00.

'Heads Up' Three: Although the kayak technically does hold a third person (I tried it . . . once), the third person makes it pretty uncomfortable and difficult to paddle. Note: Our third person was a six-year-old.

'Heads Up' Four: Purchase seats. I did. It was worth it. Your back will thank you. I went with Harmony's Standard Sit-On-Top Seats. They fit and work.

Post 'Heads Up' Comment: The above cautions are probably typical for a two-person kayak. If you want a two-person sit-on-top kayak, I recommend the Perception Sport Doubleplay. We enjoy it.

4Perception Sport Doubleplay 12.0 Tandem Sit-on-Top Kayak
By Larry V. Fulmer Jr.
I have taken this kayak out several times since I received it. Overall I like it.
there are some things that I had to deal with. It really needs the harmony seats for comfort.
The rear seat sits lower and tilted more than the front seat - that is a problem for me with back issues but I added a boat seat cushion under the harmony seat helps a lot.
I had to add many eyelets to hold stuff. I don't have any idea what about that molded in paddle holder.
The boat paddles well and quick once you sort through the seating situation. I added to 6" hatches, one in front of each seat, Much handier there.
I think for the money it's a good kayak for my needs.
